Stockholm Sweden

Picture
Our IDC to Stockholm was one of the grandest trips we have ever taken.  Staying at the Grand Hotel, of course, home to many of the Nobel Prize winners while they are in Stockholm.

Stockholm is a beautiful  city of countless parks, waterways,  endless shops, restaurants, museums and easily walkable.  In July, there are flowers everywhere!

We also enjoyed dinner and drinks at the Lydmar Hotel, next door to the Grand and a sister hotel in their portfolio.  The second floor balcony dining area was extraordinary for both the great food and the beautiful view of the gardens below.

One of the high points of our trip was leasing a yacht  and crew for a day for a tour of the Archipelago Islands.  We stopped for lunch on Sandhamn, a key meeting place for sailors and yachters.  The idyllic village was a historical sea pilot station and has an inn, hotels, the classic Swedish Yacht Club and numerous restaurants.

But to be true to our name, the International Dining Club,  had to experience the Frantzen, a three star Michelin restaurant in Stockholm.  Located on a side street and built like visiting in a home, we spent over five hours in this restaurant with its laid back staff and the incredible story that goes with each course delivered to the table.

First you are invited to visit the "living room" area of the townhouse, on the third floor.  While there you relax with hors d'oervres, champagne,  meet some of the staff and review the food that will be prepared for you.  Then you head downstairs to the kitchen for the meal. Before we sat down we had a walk through the prep-kitchen and then into the wine cellar.

The dining area is in the kitchen.  You watch the staff prepare your meals in their fabulous copper kitchen.

Instead of wines for each course, we opted for a juice tasting menu with some fabulous drinks created to bring out the flavor of each course we were eating.

Back into the living room or the side porch for desserts.  A cart of handmade candies .  We ate every piece of candy on this cart!
